Buyer’s Guide

Choosing a container comes down to three things: size, height and condition. This guide explains each one so you can compare the containers in our shop.

Condition grades

New (one-trip)

Built new and used for a single overseas shipment before sale. Expect clean paint and very little wear. Best for container homes, offices, resale and modifications. See new containers.

Cargo-worthy

A used container in good enough structural condition to carry cargo by sea. Expect dents, scratches and some surface rust. Best for shipping and long-term storage.

Wind and watertight (WWT)

A used container that keeps out wind and rain but is no longer intended for ocean shipping. Expect dents, faded paint and surface rust; doors work and the floor is sound. Best for budget storage on a farm, yard or job site. See used containers.

Each product page states which grade applies. Refrigerated units also state whether the refrigeration machinery works.

Sizes

Typical external sizes and capacities. Exact figures vary slightly by manufacturer; each product page lists the unit’s own specifications where available.

Standard or high cube?

A high cube container is one foot taller than a standard one. Choose high cube for tall items, shelving, or any conversion where people will stand inside. See high cube containers.
